Thank you Joyce for the name Layers of Love. This is a super quick knit using 6-weight yarn and size 13 needles. I know that I have more patterns for women and wanted to make something that would be great for men also.
I think this pattern works for all. Knit in a pink for a woman, navy blue for a man, orange and green stripes for a teenager - whatever works. If you want to knit this for a child, just use worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles and work the pattern the same.
The pattern is over a multiple of 2 stitches, but use a multiple of 8 if you are adjusting so that your crown decreases remain the same.

Layers of Love Cap
Abbreviations:
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
Cast on 48 stitches, place marker and join, taking care not to twist stitches.
Work Pattern:
Row 1: knit all stitches
Row 2: purl all stitches
Rows 3, 4 & 5: *k1, p1*; repeat from * around
Repeat Rows 1 - 5 three more times for a total of 4 repeats. The piece will measure about 7 inches in length. End on a Row 5.
Decrease Crown:
Row 1: *k6, k2tog*; repeat from * around
Row 2: *k5, k2tog*; repeat from * around
Row 3: *k4, k2tog*; repeat from * around
Row 4: *k3, k2tog*; repeat from * around
Row 5: *k2, k2tog*; repeat from * around
Finish: Cut working yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure. Weave in ends and enjoy.

very nice to find your blog. one question here, are you using circular needles size 13? I am new to knitting, where you say cast on 46 st. place marker and join i am assuming that means circular needles.
