Side Step was knit with a worsted weight yarn from my stash. This is a very easy pattern that can easily be adjusted to accommodate different weight yarn or to make a different size. Although the pattern can be worked over any even number of stitches, stick with multiple of 8 so the crown decrease will remain the same.

Side Step
You will need 150 - 200 yards of worsted weight yarn and size US 8 circular needles.
Abbreviations:
s1: slip one stitch, as if to knit
ssk: slip 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit to your right hand needle. Using your left hand needle, knit the 2 stitches together
Cast on 80 stitches, place marker and join, taking care not to twist stitches.
Work Brim:
Row 1: knit all stitches
Repeat Row 1 seven more times for a total of 8 rows
Work Pattern:
Rows 1 & 2: *k1, s1*; repeat around
Rows 3 & 4: knit all stitches
Rows 5 & 6: *s1, k1*; repeat around
Rows 7 & 8: knit all stitches
Repeat Rows 1 - 8 six more times for a total of 7 repeats. The piece will measure 7.5 to 8 inches in length. End on a Row 8.
Decrease Crown:
Row 1: *k6, ssk*; repeat from * around
Row 2: *k5, ssk*; repeat from * around
Row 3: *k4, ssk*; repeat from * around
Row 4: *k3, ssk*; repeat from * around
Finish: Cut working yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure. Weave in ends and enjoy.

I love this pattern --made it 4 times so far. Have you adapted this for a scarf? I can't seem to work throuigh how to slip the stitches on the back side when knitting flat. Great job looking forward to more great patterns.

DeleteI am a beginner and I use videos a lot to learn stitches. I am sorta worried about the ssk stitch. Do you know of a video for that one? I really want to try this hat.
