Introducing Journey to the Top - A Hat for All!

Here is the latest hat off my needles for Delaware Head Huggers!  Thank you Gaynell for the name:  Journey to the Top.

I think this is masculine enough to work for a man, yet worked in a different color, I can see it being perfect for women.  I also think it's interesting enough and 'different' enough to appeal to the younger people also.
Schnapps worked hard on this one!

This was knit using Hometown USA and size 13 needles.  If you don't have any 6-weight yarn, just double up some worsted weight and have at it!  A very flexible pattern, this can be adjusted for just about anyone.  The pattern is in multiples of 4, so keep that in mind when adapting.  For example, if using one strand of worsted weight and size 8 needles, cast on 88 stitches and work the pattern the same.  If you need to make it a little larger, cast on 56 or 60 stitches.  This fit an adult man's head comfortably, but feel free to adjust as needed.

The pattern may also be found on Scribd.com as a PDF .
Journey to the Top

You will need 80 - 90 yards of chunky or 6-weight yarn and size US 13 circular needles

Abbreviations:

p2tog:  purl 2 stitches together

k2tog:  knit 2 stitches together

Cast on 52 stitches, place marker and join, taking care not to twist stitches.

Work Pattern:

Row 1: *k2, p2*; repeat around

Row 2: with yarn in front *sl2knit wise, p2*; repeat around

Repeat Rows 1 - 2 until the piece measures 7.5 inches in length.  End on a Row 2.

Decrease Crown:

Row 1:  *k2, p2tog*; repeat  around

Row 2:  *k2tog, p1*; repeat around

Row 3:  *k2tog*; repeat from * around

Finish: Cut working yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.  Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure.  Weave in ends and enjoy.

The pattern is in multiples of 4, so adjust accordingly.

It is very important to make sure you are holding the yarn in front, as if to purl, but slipping the stitches as if to knit.

Happy Knitting!

Remember, all are welcome to join us in some way - we love to see new people and are grateful when more people hear about us.  So, spread the word!  And, as always, if you or anyone you know is in need of chemo caps, please feel free to contact me directly at robin@delawareheadhuggers.org and I will be happy to ship some out.  If there is a chemo center that is near and dear to your heart and you think they could use some hats, let me know and I will ship a box off to them.  This is what we do!!
