Introducing Love: Hat 3 in the Trilogy!

This is the hat that began this trilogy.  We started with the edging and couldn't decide about the lace. So, we worked it and found that it might be a bit too much detail for some people.  So, Live and Laugh are patterns worked with just one element of the two from Love.

We hope you like all three hats in this group.  It was fun making them and I think they will work nicely with just about any yarn.

This model was made with Ella Rae's Classic Heathers in Jade and size 7 needles.  The color is gorgeous and it just seemed to work well with this pattern.  Try whatever yarn you have on hand and see what happens!

The edging pattern is worked over 13 stitches.  The lace pattern is worked over 8 stitches.  You must decrease the number of stitches evenly in the last row of stockinette before working the lace pattern.

To knit this using 6-weight yarn, use size 13 needles and cast on 52 stitches.  Decrease 4 stitches so you have 48 stitches to begin your lace.  Begin the crown decrease at 4 inches.

To knit this using 5-weight yarn, use size 10.5 needles and cast on 65 stitches.  Decrease one stitch to start the lace pattern with 64 stitches.

To make it child size, use worsted yarn, size 7 needles and cast on 65 stitches.   Decrease to 64 stitches prior to beginning lace.  Begin crown decreases between 6.5 and 7 inches, depending on desired length of finished hat.

To knit this using sport weight yarn, use size 5 needles and cast on 117 stitches. Decrease 5 stitches to start the lace pattern with 112 stitches.  Begin crown decrease at 7.5 to 8 inches.

If using a different weight, you might have to add more rows to the crown decrease.
