Glitter-ature: A Bookmark

Well, I try to steer clear of naming anything based on the yarn I used so that it doesn't keep people from trying the pattern using a different fiber.  But, I let my husband choose the name for this one...........  :)

Quick and easy bookmark pattern that will work with ay yarn.  Just use whatever size needles are required for the yarn you use and you'll be all set.  You can make this wider and use it as a headband too.  The pattern is in multiples of 7 with 2 edge stitches on each side, so if you increase your number of stitches in increments of 7 you will be fine.

The pattern may also be found on Scribd.com as a PDF and, as always, you can email me at robin@delawareheadhuggers.org and I will email you a copy.

 GLITTER-ATURE:  A Bookmark

You need:  2-weight yarn  (small amount) and size 3 knitting needles.  Or use any scrap yarn you have and the coordinating needles.

Abbreviations:

k2tog:  knit 2 stitches together as one

yo:  yarn over

skp: slip one stitch knitwise, knit the next stitch, then pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch

Cast on 18 stitches

Work Edge

Knit every stitch for 2 rows

Pattern:

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12:  k2, purl to last 2, k2

Row 1:  k2, *k2, k2tog, yo, k3*; repeat from * to *, k2
Row 3:  k2, *k1, k2tog, yo, k4*; repeat from * to *, k2
Row 5:  knit all stitches
Row 7:  k2, *k3, yo, skp, k2*; repeat from * to *, k2
Row 9:  k2, *k4, yo, skp, k1*; repeat from * to *, k2
Row 11:  knit all stitches

Repeat Rows 1 - 12 until the piece is desired length.

Work Edge Again

Knit every stitch for 2 rows

Bind off all stitches and enjoy!

Just got the fantastic news that Schnapps blood work shows NO SIGNS of kidney problems from the Lyme disease!  THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!  He may have hypothyroidism (like I do) but we'll be sure of that next week.  The important thing is that the Lyme was caught early enough and there was no damage to his kidneys!!!!  He knows it's important to exercise, so he was doing yoga with me this morning!

HAPPY KNITTING!

Week 35 - Hats, Exciting News and a Bookmark!

Can you believe that it's week 35 of 2012 already?  I'm not sure where the time is going, but it's definitely going quickly.

My 2 hats are finished for the week.  The Let There Be Rows Hat which is in a previous post was first this week.  I love using bulky yarn and getting amazing texture from such simple stitches.  I'm planning another hat with 6-weight yarn too.  Hopefully that will come out nicely too.

Then, the award winning author, Geri Krotow contacted me this week about putting one of my patterns in her upcoming novel!!  This means that the thousands of people who read her book will learn about Delaware Head Huggers too!  Isn't that fantastic??  So, after learning a bit about the setting and characters in the book, the Navy Hug Hat was designed.  I hope everyone likes it!  To learn more about Geri and her books, visit her website and her Facebook page!

I also finished up a lace bookmark - with Schnapps' help of course -  this week.  I used metallic yarn which is a bit difficult to photograph.  I am getting the pattern written so that I can share it with everyone in another post.

Poor Schnapps has his annual check up at the vet this week and his blood work came back showing Lyme disease.  :(   As you can imagine, we are very upset and worried and taking extra good care of him.  He's on antibiotics for a month and we are waiting for the results of more blood work too.....  He was quite sad to have to have blood drawn twice this week!
BUT, he was very grateful for all the love and hugs sent to him from everyone!  He appears to be feeling fine...........so we're hoping we caught this early.  Enough love for the Schnauzer and he smiles again!  And he is VERY much loved.

Happy Knitting Everyone!

Remember, all are welcome to join us in some way - we love to see new people and are grateful when more people hear about us.  So, spread the word!  And, as always, if you or anyone you know is in need of chemo caps, please feel free to contact me directly at robin@delawareheadhuggers.org and I will be happy to ship some out.  If there is a chemo center that is near and dear to your heart and you think they could use some hats, let me know and I will ship a box off to them.  This is what we do!!

Introducing Let There Be Rows: A One Row Hat!

Well, it's Sunday and the first hat for the week is already off my needles and ready to go.
Thank you Minetta for the name!

This weekend I also managed to figure out how to post a link to my Ravelry page with all my patterns on this blog.  I realize that doesn't seem like such a major accomplishment, but it took me quite some time to get it right!  You can just click the link to have access to all of my patterns, free and otherwise.

This is a quick and very easy pattern - it's just one row!  I knit this with Hometown USA from Lion Brand, but any 6-weight yarn would do wonderfully.  Or you can adapt the pattern - just use multiples of 3 stitches.  I think it will look very different, but equally nice knit in a worsted weight yarn on size 7 needles.

Schnapps hopes you like this one!

The pattern may also be found on Scribd.com as a PDF

Let There Be Rows

You will need 6-weight yarn - between 75 - 80 yards and size US 13 circular needles (16" in length)

Abbreviations:

LT:  Left twist - skip the first stitch and knit the second stitch through the back loop, then knit the first stitch as usual and slip both stitches off the LH needle.

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together as one

Cast on 48 stitches, place marker and join, taking care not to twist stitches.

Work Pattern:

Row 1: *LT, p1*; repeat around

Repeat Row 1 until piece is 7.5 inches long (or longer if desired)

Decrease Crown:

Row 1:  *k2tog, p1*; repeat around

Row 2:  *k2tog*; repeat around

Finish: Cut working yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.  Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure.  Weave in ends and enjoy.

This pattern uses a multiple of 3.  The model fit my head comfortably, but was snug on my husband, so add stitches if making for a man.  You can use worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles and just double the number of cast on stitches.  Or 5-weight yarn and size 10.5 needles and start with 72 stitches.  Or make it for a child and go smaller!  It’s very adaptable!!

Love Links

Thank you Marta for the name!  The model is knit using Michael's Charisma yarn - which I love, but would work with just about any yarn at all.

This is a new pattern that I designed this week and it is now for sale on Ravelry  for $2.00.  All proceeds go towards Delaware Head Huggers.

Schnapps, of course, was most helpful!

Introducing Community Links!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!  We reached our 500 votes and will receive a $500 grant from PNC to cover shipping and supply costs!  As promised, here is the newest pattern for everyone.  The name was tricky...........I was going with Chains of Hope and some people didn't like that chains can have negative connotations, so we were tossing around other ideas.  Then Jessica came up with Community Links since everyone worked together to secure the grant!  Perfect!!!

Schnapps is so happy!  He thanks you all!!!!!

I hope you like this hat.......it's got 2 variations........the pink one was the second one I made and I realized after I started that I was skipping Row 4.......but it looked ok to me still, so I kept it.  The pattern is in multiples of 4 so adjust accordingly if you want to change the size.

The pattern may also be found on Scribd.com as a PDF .

COMMUNITY LINKS

You need 6-weight yarn and size 13 needles.  I used less than one skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA, so probably about 75 yards.

Abbreviations:

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together as one

Cast on 48 stitches, place marker and join, taking care not to twist stitches.

Work Pattern:

Row 1: *p1, k3*; repeat around
Row 2: *p1, k3*; repeat around
Row 3:  *p1, skip 2 stitches, knit the 3rd stitch.  Without dropping the stitches off the left hand needle, then knit the 1st, then the 2nd stitch and then drop all three at the same time*; repeat around
Row 4: *p1, k3*; repeat around
Repeat Rows 1 - 4 four times.

Decrease Crown:

Row 1:  *p1, k1, k2tog*; repeat  around
Row 2:  *p1, k2tog*; repeat around
Row 3:  *k2tog*; repeat  around

Finish: Cut working yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.  Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure.  Weave in ends and enjoy.

The pink hat in the photo is a slight variation.  Simply leave out Row 4.  Knit Rows 1 - 3 five times, then decrease the crown and finish as written.  I forgot to knit Row 4 when working on it and decided that it still looked kind of cute.

Introducing Layers of Love: A Cap for Men, Women & Children!

Thank you Joyce for the name Layers of Love.  This is a super quick knit using 6-weight yarn and size 13 needles.  I know that I have more patterns for women and wanted to make something that would be great for men also.

I think this pattern works for all.  Knit in a pink for a woman, navy blue for a man, orange and green stripes for a teenager -  whatever works.  If you want to knit this for a child, just use worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles and work the pattern the same.

The pattern is over a multiple of 2 stitches, but use a multiple of 8 if you are adjusting so that your crown decreases remain the same.

If you haven't had a chance to stop by our Facebook page, take a minute to drop by and like us. It is truly a wonderful group of people who are kind enough to give me support and encouragement as I make hats!  Follow along as we make a difference, find out where all our hats go and learn about new hat patterns as soon as Schnapps and I finish them.  We're a finalist in the PNC Neighborhood Wishlist program also!  Details will only be on Facebook detailing how to vote.  There are also always new photos of Schnapps to see!

Carolyn Rose Cap 2.0 - In the Round

I've been missing Carolyn a lot lately.............wishing I could talk to her.  I just had to knit one of these hats as my second hat this week.  I am certain that she is the push behind all my hat ideas............

Since many people have asked for how to knit this cap in the round, I figured I would work it that way and then post the directions.  It took a little adapting, but came out fine.  The original pattern, knit flat is still available here

This pattern is free, but please, if you haven't already, stop by our Facebook page and like us.

Introducing Side Step!

Hat number one for this week is off my needles, named and ready to go.  Thank you Elissa for the name!

Thank you! So many of you have purchased CAP-turing Hope a new ebook with 11 brand new hat patterns in it.  Both that book and Chemo Caps to Share may be purchased by using the links on the right hand side of the page.  They are also available on:

Craftsy:  https://www.craftsy.com/user/121931/pattern-store

All my patterns are on Ravelry, free or otherwise.  I'm deheadhuggers and my store is Robin Celli Designs.  Stop by and visit and pick up your own copy of the ebooks if you'd like.

Side Step was knit with a worsted weight yarn from my stash.  This is a very easy pattern that can easily be adjusted to accommodate different weight yarn or to make a different size.  Although the pattern can be worked over any even number of stitches, stick with multiple of 8 so the crown decrease will remain the same.
